~August Journal~

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 18, 2012, 9:58 AM

:bulletgreen: August 25

Most of the exams are finished. Hopefully, I could finish Nemu-Asakura's commission tonight and start with Neko-Hanyou-Sakura's. I'm still at school dying finishing an animation plate. Meanwhile trying to develop this style I really like. Sketches should be up soon, if I'm not too tired to scan anything when I get home or draw anything at all. I hope you all look forward to my original works!

:bulletred: August 19

Preliminary exams are over! Well at least the tougher part. I still have one more exam to take and it's... not actually one of the kindest too. But hey, at least that's one left. Package design. Only uh... a little more complicated. Like, it's one of the things that make me question myself for choosing this course and whatnot. LOL.

So anyway despite that, current artwork I'll be doing is Nemu-Asakura's commission and probably start sketching the others, too. Other than that, I'm going to start working on some of my original series. To be honest, I wasn't quite confident at first because of, well, the fear that my audience won't be much thrilled about it and it matters a lot to me what my viewers think, aside from the usual "I do what makes me happy" line. And yet I do take that in consideration. I do what I want, after all. /loki brick'd

So yeah. I'm not saying I won't work on my fandom OCs any more (hello, I didn't spend months knowing how to draw a peahen for nothing) but I won't make them a priority, like I did in the past. Hey, we all go through something like this every once in a while. I'm graduating in two years and I need to be productive with new stuff I want a good job, you know. And yeah I'm making such a big deal out of this because for three years, I've been drawing nothing but fandom OCs and I can't, for the love of god, submit something like those in my portfolio. (my teachers, and probably the whole college faculty of my uni despise anime) I really could just only hope for your support. It'll mean a lot. It's a really huge transition and development for me.

Still, thank you for sticking with me until now. I hadn't realized I turned 4 years here 2 days ago. I've gone so far. I couldn't have done it without you guys. All the watches, lovely faves and ultimately kind and helpful comments, thank you so much! Let's go forth and beyond~!

"...probably the whole college faculty of my uni despise anime"

Sorry, but that line caught my attention and I just had to comment. I hate when people look down certain artists just because they draw in anime style :| It's so closed-minded of them! And so unfair... Anime doesn't mean shitty, of course it looks like a simple style at the beginning, but that doesn't mean you can't turn it into something amazing (like this [link] or this [link])... Of course we have to try different styles and not stick only to one style, but it's so unfair that they only hate the manga style! They should notice that most of the videogames artwork is basically realistic manga style...

I'm sorry people at your faculty is so closed-minded, honestly  Hopefully, not everyone will be like that. A friend of mine got a job by sending her portfolio to certain company, and she mostly draws in anime style, so don't be ashamed for drawing manga :aww:

Yeah well I take what I can get. I do understand what they want to come across with. It's not that they hate the style. They just don't encourage it. Now that you mentioned it, I do wonder why. Unless it's animation class or figure drawing class, they grant pardon to anime style anywho. I really never wondered why before but yeah, you drove me to ask that myself XD maybe I could get my professors to tell me what's with it that they dislike XDD

Perhaps it depends on the company you're applying for. I think anime style goes well with gaming and such and I think it does! I could try submitting portfolios to such with anime style too. Maybe it's just certain professors here. I believe it depends on the situation whether they allow anime or not ^^

Thanks for the motivation, still. Nice seeing you around :3

Well, I can certainly understand why artists don't encourage manga style, since the style used in animes is quite simple (and the animation is usually poor... although I might be just used to the animation in Naruto), but they haven't seen pictures like those I just showed you :P

Yeah, I guess it depends on a company. Because I've seen certain artists here on dA who were working on Square Enix (yes, as amazing as it sounds :faint:), this is why we should never give up ;)

It's not a problem! :D I know I don't comment much anymore, I've changing a lot on dA, but I'm still all to encourage my fellow manga artists! :D

That might be the reason. It's probably because they wanted us to learn real human anatomy before going for the application. In this case, anime style. Putting that into perspective, then they don't really have anything against anime. I would understand that.

True! All in all, I'm still going to put anime in my portfolio, just to show my ability to be versatile with different styles. Still, since it's the style I grew up to, I treat it with much respect. All styles have their own values ^^

Nice to hear from you, dear! Well, how is it going on your side?
Jeshika-Haruno Featured By Owner Aug 20, 2012  Professional Digital Artist
True, we all have to learn real anatomy before learning other styles  Only by knowing real anatomy we can create our own anatomy styles, after all :XD:

Yup! Diversity is a great virtue  You, who have that virtue (because I've seen you draw in many styles :O), should be proud of it!

Well, I've been working on my original story since the beginning on this year, as well as working on my own style :) It's still anime-ish, but with a more realistic style/anatomy (although I love to make arms slightly longer ); then again, as I expected, my watchers almost completely ignore my original art ^^; I hope you'll do better...

Thanks! Glad to know :D

That's what I really fear. As much as I love my watchers loving my Pokemon art, etc, I'd really love them to see that I'm capable of my own original series as well. It's hard finding your own style, after all >_< I'm pretty sure they'll give you what is due. Just keep going altogether :3
